Wakefield City Academy Teaching School
Wakefield City Academy is very proud to have been amongst the first schools in the country to have been designated as a Teaching School.
Over the past ten years we have supported schools locally, nationally and internationally in developing and implementing initiatives to raise standards. Now as a teaching school we are not only able to strengthen our school-to-school support through our powerful teaching school alliance, but able to take a leading role in the professional development of teachers, support staff and headteachers.
The alliance’s aim is to create significant capacity with which to deliver powerful school-to-school support and professional development in the areas key to raising achievement (9-19) across the Yorkshire and Humber region and beyond and to this end has been founded on a number of cornerstones: first, a national reputation for producing significant, speedy and sustained improvement to achievement levels in schools facing challenging circumstances; second, a distinct ethos of working in partnership with schools on programmes designed to: develop staff; build confidence and expertise to enable the confident use of strategies to raise expectations and the quick identification of underachievement and employment of wide ranging interventions; third, the training and development of our own staff in shortage areas. Finally there is no place in our alliance work for a blame culture.
Our alliance is exceptionally well placed to support E.Bacc subjects especially maths with three maths and computing colleges as lead schools and the appointment of highly qualified SLE’s.
